Local botanical artist Morgyn Phillips leads an informal hands-on session of field sketching in the Gardens.

We will talk about sketchbooks, topics and tips for sketching and then find some subjects for quick sketches of trees, leaves, flowers or gardenscapes. We will look for rocks or garden seats to perch on so it is not necessary to bring a folding stool unless you wish to.

You will need:

Black or brown felt tip pens one fine and one thicker eg .05 and (Artline, Staedtler Pigment Liner, Unipin Fineline or Copic or similar, permanent ink preferable but not essential), OR 2B pencil (the blue Staedtler Mars Lumograph are good but any 2B will be fine for this session (you may want a rubber but it is not essential).
A5 or A4 sketch pad or sheets of cartridge drawing paper on a clip board for support.
And anything else you would like to bring (but keep it light).

You can get art supplies at Officeworks, Eckersley’s and larger newsagencies.

Registered participants will meet at the Visitor Centre Gallery where you can explore Morgyn’s exhibition Trees: Remnants & Reserves

Please wear sturdy shoes, hat and sunscreen and bring a wattle bottle.

Sessions are booked out, no waiting list.
