Christmas Island is a remote tropical island in the Indian Ocean located south of Jakarta, Indonesia.
Covered by rainforest and surrounded by deep ocean bountiful in marine life, the island has a rugged limestone coastline and covers about 135 square kilometres, of which about 63 per cent is Christmas Island National Park.
The national park also includes a marine area extending 50 metres seaward from the low water mark. There is no entry fee for visitors to the park.

  • Flights

    Virgin Australia flies to Christmas Island directly from Perth and takes about three hours.

  • Hire a car

    It's easy to pre-book a hire car for your stay on Christmas Island - and it's a great way to explore the many walks and sights at your leisure. Contact Christmas Island Tourism Association or use the links to make a booking. We recommend pre-booking as vehicles are limited.

  • Cruising

    Christmas Island is the perfect spot for cruise ships travelling between south east Asia and Fremantle to take a break and allow passengers to sample the delights of Christmas Island.

    • Yachts

      Whatever your mode of transport we've got your needs covered. Visiting yachts are invited to call at Flying Fish Cove where you'll find 30 metre deep moorings. The Marine Building which fronts the jetty has public showers and toilets open 24 hours per day - just bring soap and a towel.

    • Harbour master

      Please contact the Harbour Master on channel 16 VHF - preferably prior to arrival when mooring instructions will be given.
      The Harbour Master can be found in the Marine Building - a courtesy call from visiting yacht skippers is always appreciated.

    • Immigration formalities

      All yachts arriving on Christmas Island require Customs and Immigration formalities. Departure formalities are also required.
