Explore the different cultural responsibilities of men and women at an interactive workshop.
Run by the team behind the Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp, the day starts with everyone working together to prepare a ground oven with traditional bush foods. Guests then split into male and female groups for the cultural activities.
Women and girls will discover the art of traditional weaving. Learn how to strip panadanus, crush seasonal ingredients to make dye, colour the pandanus fibres and use them to weave an item to take home.
Meanwhile, men and boys will try their hand at traditional male activities such as building a fire, making spears and bondoks (woomeras), and target practice.
After the workshops we all come together to uncover the ground oven. Enjoy a delectable array of slow-cooked bush tucker including water yams, cheeky yams, lily roots, fish and turtle.
