Australian Marine Parks

Between 21 July and 20 September 2017, the Director of National Parks invited feedback on draft management plans.

These plans detailed the proposed approach to managing 44 Australian Marine Parks around the country over the next ten years.

She also invited comments on a proposal to rename Commonwealth marine reserves as marine parks.

Submissions made about the draft plans and the proposed renaming were managed according to Director of National Parks’ Privacy Policy.

The Director of National Parks is authorised to collect the personal information of persons making comments on draft marine park management plans under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). Personal information may be disclosed to the Minister, relevant government agencies, the Australian Parliament and where required by law.

The Director of National Parks’ Report on the Preparation of the Management Plansand Report on the Renaming of Commonwealth Marine Reserves summarise the comments received on draft plans and the renaming. The Director’s reports were provided to the Minister and tabled before Parliament in accordance with the EPBC Act.

Submissions have been made available online.

Submissions containing personal information of third parties, material that is manifestly unrelated, abusive or offensive material that may infringe the intellectual property rights of others, or promotional material and advertising, have not been published by the Director.
