Australian Marine Parks

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been managing their sea country for thousands of years.

They have significant cultural responsibilities.

To help protect sea country, the draft plans outline what we have learned from you about cultural values for each marine park.

We know that in many locations, Indigenous communities have established ranger groups and dedicated Indigenous Protected Areas over sea country.

These rangers are making a significant contribution to the management of sea country, including in marine parks.

We want to work with traditional owners and ranger groups to manage sea country within marine parks into the future.
