Consultation opens on new requirement for vessel monitoring systems
Parks Australia is inviting comments from the commercial fishing industry on a proposed new requirement for vessel monitoring systems in Australian Marine Parks.
Vessel monitoring systems are a widely used and highly effective tool to help marine users understand and comply with marine park rules.
The Director of National Parks is proposing to require all commercial fishing vessels transiting or operating in Australian Marine Parks to carry a vessel monitoring system from mid-2024.
Consultation on this requirement is now open.
Further information about the proposed change and the use of electronic and vessel monitoring systems in Australian Marine Parks can be found on our website.
The Electronic and Vessel Monitoring Systems Assistance Program is providing $5.5 million in grants to support the uptake of electronic and vessel monitoring technology on commercial fishing vessels ahead of this change.
