Norfolk Island is located in the south-west Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,700 kilometres east of Sydney and 1,100 kilometres north-west of Auckland. The island is serviced by regular flights from Australia (Sydney and Brisbane) and New Zealand (Auckland).

All visitors to Norfolk Island require:
- a passport (or Australian Document of Identity.)
- an onward/return airline ticket out of Norfolk Island.
- proof of suitable accommodation on the island.
- an Australian visa except for persons travelling on an Australian or New Zealand passport or persons holding a passport endorsed with Permanent Resident of Norfolk Island visa label.
Vegetables, fruits, plants and seeds are prohibited imports to keep the island free of introduced disease. Pork and poultry importation from New Zealand is strictly prohibited.
