The Director of National Parks (DNP) is inviting public comment on the new draft management plan for Booderee National Park.

Booderee is Aboriginal land and waters owned by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council (WBACC) and leased to the Commonwealth. Booderee is jointly managed as a national park by the DNP and WBACC through a Board of Management supported by Parks Australia.

The draft management plan outlines the direction and management actions for Booderee National Park for the next 10 years.

It has been developed with the Booderee National Park Board of Management through an Aboriginal-led, participatory planning process.

The Booderee National Park Board of Management participated in a series of workshops to build the next management plan from the ground up.

These workshops established the values, threats, targets and strategies for Booderee and were designed to support the Board articulate their intentions for how Country should be cared for.

It proposes to:

  • simplify and streamline the actions and policies to be delivered under the management plan
  • develop a monitoring and evaluation framework to deliver actions and policies outlined in the plan.

Key areas for consideration during this stage of public consultation include:

  • What are the key cultural and natural values of Booderee National Park that you want to see conserved and protected into the future?
  • Does the new Draft Management Plan reflect the values adequately?

The Director of National Parks will consider all comments when finalising the new management plan.
