Kakadu is calling and there’s plenty to explore!

Many sites across Kakadu National Park are open and ready for your next adventure.

Discover ancient stories at Ubirr and Burrungkuy, where world-renowned rock art galleries share thousands of years of Aboriginal culture.

Or lace up your walking shoes and take one of the many trails winding through Kakadu’s stunning natural landscapes.

Another great option at this time of year is a visit to the secluded and iconic Motor Car Falls which remain open year-round and promise a spectacular visitor experience with an impressive waterfall spilling into a large, tranquil waterhole.

Due to recent unseasonal heavy rainfall, some parts of Kakadu are experiencing unseasonal high water levels which has delayed site opening preparations.

Water levels at Gunlom have receded and rangers have recommenced site opening preparations. Crocodile surveys are resuming this weekend and will run for approximately two weeks. Roadworks will resume as the area continues to dry out. Further updates about site preparations will be provided in the next fortnight.

Rangers have been making good progress at Maguk and the site was nearing opening, however recent rain inundated the site, impacting both the campground and access road. Crocodile traps caught in vegetation following the inundation, are currently being reinstalled to support crocodile management. Maguk is now expected to open in late June.

Jim Jim Falls is currently projected to open in late July following repairs to the flood damaged Jim Jim 4WD track. Increased water levels have caused asset protection burns to be postponed, and crocodile management activities will also need to be completed before it’s safe to open this site for visitors.

Kakadu staff are monitoring these sites and as water levels recede, they will continue preparations for the sites to open to make sure your visit is safe.

Our main priority is to ensure the safety of visitors, particularly as water levels remain high.
