Snorkelling
Snorkelling is a must-do activity on Christmas Island – the biodiversity of our waters is simply breathtaking.
Many beaches have a reef close to shore, so you can simply put on a mask and fins to start exploring the underwater environment.
You’ll see a dazzling range of fish along the reef and will often find yourself swimming alongside turtles or dolphins. Whale sharks visit the island from November to April, giving you a chance to get close to these gentle giants of the deep.
Some of the best beaches for snorkelling are:
- Flying Fish Cove
- Ethel Beach (a great option if the waters are too rough at Flying Fish Cove)
- West White Beach
- Dolly Beach
As always, take responsibility for your own safety and never enter the water when it’s rough.
You can also book a guided snorkelling tour through one of the island’s dive centres.
