Also known as the Christmas Island forest gecko or Sadleir’s bow-fingered gecko, this endangered lizard is endemic to Christmas Island.

Despite its name, the giant gecko only measures about 8 cm in length. It has a long tail and thin, birdlike claws for gripping.

They are found in a variety of habitats across the island, from primary rainforest to former mining areas. Although reasonably common, their numbers are believed to be declining due to wolf snakes, giant centipedes and rats.
