Ghost Nets Innovative Solutions grants

The Director of National Parks launched the Ghost Nets Innovative Solutions grants program on 10 October 2022. Applications have now closed.

Up to $3 million (GST excl) will be available in this open, competitive grants program. This will fund interested and capable organisations and community groups to undertake projects to better detect, collect or dispose of ghost nets and other harmful forms of marine debris in northern Australian waters and coastal areas; and to raise public awareness of the issue.

Grant amounts of between $30,000 and $400,000 (exc. GST) will be available for projects of up to 2 years duration.

The grants program is designed to support innovative and inspiring projects that will help address the ghost nets and marine debris problem across northern Australia.

These could include:

  •  Ghost net and marine debris remote sensing or monitoring
  •  Marine debris and ghost net infrastructure, such as recycling technologies
  •  Transport logistics for waste solutions
  •  Volunteer support and/or coordination for clean-ups
  • Capital investment in clean-up equipment
  •  Community art and education
  •  Knowledge sharing
  • New technologies and training
  • Any other project ideas that will help us achieve the grant program objectives!

Applications closed on 5 December 2022.
