Transformations, Art of the Scott Sisters
Transformations: Art of the Scott Sisters brings to life the work of Harriet and Helena Scott.
With their paintbrushes, microscopes and magnifying glasses, they worked together to transform nature into art in extraordinary paintings of moths and butterflies.
This exhibition features reproductions of 35 delicate watercolours, as well as animations of butterflies and moths based on the original illustrations of Harriet (Hattie) and Helena (Nellie) Scott, two of Australia’s most prominent 19th century natural history artists.
Paintings created by the sisters between 1846 and 1851 for their father’s landmark publication Australian Lepidoptera and their Transformations – depicting caterpillars in life-like poses, gorgeous butterflies and native flowers – are considered to be among their finest work and are still used by scientists today.
