Christmas Island National Park

Located in the settlement area, Flying Fish Cove is Christmas Island’s most popular beach.

While the phosphate port dominates the northern part of the cove, the southern end is peaceful and pretty, with lush greenery stretching down to the sand and beautiful rock formations. Spinner dolphins can often be seen frolicking in the deeper waters.

The beach is very popular with families thanks to its BBQ facilities and relatively protected swimming area. If you decide to go in the water, we recommend wearing reef shoes to protect your feet from sharp coral and stonefish.

Flying Fish Cove is a great spot for snorkelling and shore diving and can be surfed when the swell is up.

This west-facing beach also offers some of the best sunsets on the island, so grab a cold drink and watch nature put on a show.
