The diverse marine environment and clear waters of Jervis Bay offer excellent scuba diving and snorkelling.

The best snorkelling locations in Jervis Bay can be found off rock platforms at Scottish Rocks and Murrays Beach. Glide through the crystal-clear waters and marvel at the marine life of Jervis Bay.

Air tank fills, diving equipment and tours are available at dive shops in nearby Huskisson.

Snorkelling and diving tips

  1. Equipment check: Ensure that you select the correct masks, vests and breathing apparatus. Well-fitting equipment will ensure that you are safe and confident in the water and mean less adjustments whilst you’re trying to explore your surroundings.
  2. Sun protection: Don’t forget your sunscreen! Even though you’ll be spending most of your time under water, the water can magnify the suns rays and lead to sunburn.
  3. From land to water: Fins or flippers will help to propel you through the water more quickly and smoothly, but they aren’t essential. If you do choose to wear flippers, only put them on as you are entering the water, as you could damage them when walking on land.
  4. Breathe in, breathe out: If you aren’t an experienced diver or snorkeller, try taking a few practise breaths where you can still touch the ground so that you can get used to the rhythm and sensation.
  5. Move slowly: Don’t startle the wildlife! Moving slowly will allow you to take notice of all the tiny details in the marine environment around you.
  6. Relax and enjoy: When you are relaxed and confident in your surroundings, you are less likely to startle any marine life which might be nearby. Have fun!
