Booderee National Park

Friday 16 February 2024

Foxes are a serious threat to our native wildlife. To better protect the unique animals that call Booderee National Park home, fox control activities are regularly carried out within the park.

The Booderee National Park Vertebrate Pest 1080 and Canid Pest Ejector (CPE) Programs will begin on 19 February and run through to 20 December 2024, with the exception of school holidays, public holidays, long weekends and other times when park visitation is high.

The program will target Red Foxes (Vulpes vulpes) through a monthly 1080 ground-baiting program within Booderee. All baiting sites are sign posted and located at least 500m from residential areas. These efforts will be combined with targeted CPE deployments as determined by a fox monitoring program that runs throughout the year.

While pets are not permitted within Booderee, it is important to note that 1080 can cause death to cats and dogs and is poisonous to humans. Bait stations are located off walking tracks, and visitors who may come across a bait station are urged not to disturb it.

Further information about the program is available from the Natural Resource Manager at Booderee National Park on (02) 4215 6610.
