The Director of National Parks acknowledges the passing of Mr M. Na-gangila Bangalang, prominent and important Senior Murrwan Traditional Owner in the Erre Region and member of the Kakadu National Park Board of Management.
Out of our respect for Na-gangila and in line with cultural practice and the wishes of the Traditional Owners from the Erre (East Alligator) region, parts of Kakadu National Park will be closed until further notice.
This includes the East Alligator River itself, the upstream and downstream boat ramps and Ubirr.
Please note, Mr Na-gangila Bangalang is referred to by his skin name as his first name can no longer be used out of respect for cultural protocol.
The Director of National Parks and Kakadu National Park staff extend their heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of this very important man at this time of great sadness.
