This report is the first of two conservation values assessments to be provided by CSIRO to Environment Australia during 2002.
On 26 September 2001 the Minister for the Environment and Heritage announced plans to assess the conservation values of 11 unique marine areas in Commonwealth waters.
The conservation values assessments are intended to provide information as to whether the Government should proceed with conservation measures for any of the areas, such as declaring new marine protected areas.
