The former Lord Howe Island Marine Park (Commonwealth Waters) has been included within the larger new Lord Howe Commonwealth Marine Reserve.

The former Lord Howe Island Marine Park (Commonwealth Waters) was originally proclaimed on 21 June 2000 and the first management plan came into force on 25 September 2002.

This management plan expired on 24 September 2009.
