The purpose of this paper is to outline the approach of the Scientific Peer Review Panel for the National Representative System of Marine Protected Areas in assessing the principles of comprehensiveness, adequacy and representativeness of Marine Protected Area (MPA) proposals for inclusion in the Commonwealth waters component of the National Representative System of Marine Protected Areas.
The advice provided in this paper is based on national guidelines produced by the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council for establishing a comprehensive, adequate and representative MPA system.
