About this document
This document has been prepared for marine conservation managers, fishery managers and government officials concerned with the development and implementation of marine protected areas.
The intention is to provide some of the key concepts and supporting technical evidence for the dual and potentially complementary role of marine protected areas in both fisheries and conservation.
In addition, we explore the use of protected areas as an important component of ecosystem-based management of fisheries.
The preparation of this document was made possible with funds from Australia’s Natural Heritage Trust and the Department of the Environment and Heritage.
